Finish line

Just got off the bike. It was nice to do a leisurely 10 minutes with no pressure.
Had a great sleep of 8 hours. Unheard of in my normal week.
You folks rode and spoke from the heart and the warmth I have for you all is immense. The support received directly or indirectly to fight Parkinson's was fantastic. The Hospital Research Foundation will make sure it is directed to research and help folks fighting Parkinson's.
The fund raising was the focus and I am going to think carefully about how I can use this momentum to help further
But for now I am going to enjoy my holiday.
Love to you all

Bike Eve

Thanks everyone for pushing your social media. It is an impressive pyramid scheme. I have a lot of generous friends who have a lot of generous friends. Parkinson's touch a lot of people.
Huge thank you to people who have donated, that I haven't been able to directly contact. Much appreciated.
For all riding tomorrow, rest up and hydrate!
Cheers Jim

See Adelaide and Beyond

Wine tour
Dallas, Nikki and Mark who own See Adelaide and Beyond Tours generously donated a wine tour. He arranged many friends from my early twenties to donate and come along. It was a fantastic day and the support from Haselgrove, Chapel Hill and Larnook wineries was exceptional. We raised  donations through tickets, wine purchases and a sporting challenge (well done Emma!). Thanks again.
Life
The last few years has seen the passing of people whom have been close to me, such as my dad or relatives of people close to me. Some have been a full life and some far too short.
In the end we are a story, spoken at a beautiful ceremony attended by loved ones. You write your own story from life's many experiences. Finding love, mateship, kindness, filling your senses with experiences like travel, establishing a home (not house), having a positive impact on your career and colleagues and if you are lucky, the joy of raising a family that makes you burst with pride. This is the story of a good life.
Not how much is in your bank, how many houses you have, the car you drive or the title of your occupation. No-one will remember you for these things.
Enjoy writing your story!

The Run In and family

Hi Folks,
Thanks for all your efforts with the fund raising. Melissa has been keeping me updated on your posts on Facebook. Your words have been moving and I've felt very loved.
Looks like I am having deep brain stimulation late August which hopefully will allow me to cut down on medication. 8 tablets a day staggered over 4 time slots which have to be an hour away from from food. Fair to say my family is sick of my mobile's ⏰️ alarm. Seriously though Melissa, Brianna and Shaylee are fantastic with their support. They don't smother me but will be there for me when some help is needed.
It will get more difficult in the future for them but I am adamant not to become an anchor on their lives. I have travelled extensively around the world which made me a better person in many ways. I encourage them to live their lives to the fullest.

Golfing

The neuropsychologist said that golf ticks the three big checkpoints that a past time should.
1. Exercise
2. Mindfulness
3. Social support
I have several golfing groups that I lean on to fulfill these above three regions. They allow me to keep my passion for this game going with a huge amount of humour and friendship. They keep me grounded and don’t  allow me to make Parkinsons my golfing handicap.
Their friendship and brotherhood are vital to my treatment and for that I can’t  put into words how they have helped me.
Love to you all
ps These blogs only allow me to upload one image per blog. The picture is the core group that I play with consistently, Speedy, Will, Gavin and our great friend who lives in Canada, Geoff. I need to make a special mention of Matt, Rhys, Paul and Sin who are scattered around the country. We have managed to play in Tassie, Victoria, Gold Coast and SA. Great memories with great mates. Also my bro and bro in-laws. Yep, I play a lot of golf😁

Boxing

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning if you drive by the Riverside plaza of Adelaide Oval between 6.00am to 6.45am you will see some 50+ year olds with mits and pads working up a sweat. We have been doing this for many years now. When I mentioned to a mate, Furls, that boxing was one of the best exercises for Parkinson's, he said no worries I will be over at 5.45am on Tuesday. That was five years ago and he has only missed sessions for holidays. We have Perry and Dallas as consistent members now. We work hard for 40 minutes and then walk and check up on each others welfare. I am in no doubt that this has kept my quality of life to the best it can be. We might not look any fitter but our lives are better for it.
Thanks for your mateship. Means the world to me.

Just incredible

Just an amazing amount of support. Friends of Friends! Friends of Family! Corporate!
A lot of good will come from this generosity! Every little bit helps so if I can ask that you occasionally update the cause on your socials, we might fly by the target.
For all those who have supported our efforts through my friends and family pages, a big thanks. Unfortunately I can't contact you directly but know that your generosity has blown me away. Cheers.

My Story

Jim's Journey

Monday 6th May
I was diagnosed in February 2018. Obviously came as a shock as I was otherwise in good health. Anger, sadness and a strong sense of not being involved in my family's future pursued.
I am fortunately surrounded by love from my family, friends and colleagues which got me through the early emotional roller-coaster. I also live in a fortunate corner of the globe which has afforded me access to a great GP, Neurologist, Neurosurgeon, Neurophysiotherapists, Neuropsychologist, OT's plus  organisations such as Parkinson's SA and the Brain and Body Fitness studio with their amazing exercise physiologists.
In some ways my diagnosis has been a blessing allowing me to refocus my priorities of family & friends and allow me to organise my life, which people with sudden ends or short terminal diagnoses, do not have that privilege. I am lucky in that way.
BUT Parkinson's is a shitful disease which eats away at your independence, pride and emotions, You know you are on a downhill trajectory which has the occasional steep decline you don't see coming. In many ways the fact you know there is a new drop ahead is one of the biggest anxieties you have.
I will however continue to fight with the support of Melissa, Brianna and Shaylee, my extended family & friends with special mention to the guys I box and golf with.
Please help support this organisation, Parkinson's SA, as they do a wonderful job with caring and genuine smiles. Thanks for reading, Jim, Jimbo Jamie or James xx

36 hours of outrageous kindness and support

Hi Folks,
What an amazing initial response. Massive thank you for those who have donated and those willing to ride.
We are well on way to our target. If you get the chance please share the link on your social network.
Massive appreciation from all that this fundraising will help.
